Chicago Bathroom Remodeling Trends for 2016

Chicago Bathroom Remodeling Trends for 2016There are home renovations that pay off, and those that don't. Bathroom remodels are in the former category. According to realtormag.org, an upscale bathroom remodel recoups nearly 64% of the initial investment in resale value. That's not too shabby.

In order to see that kind of return, it's important that the remodel is done professionally and with an eye towards contemporary design trends - mixed with your own style and functional needs, of course.

Pay Attention to These 2016 Chicago Bathroom Remodeling Trends

If this is the year you plan to launch a long-awaited bathroom renovation, there are a few Chicago bathroom remodeling trends to keep an eye on. We appreciate the fact that most of them are timeless, so the finished bathrooms will be just as desirable 15- and 20-years from now as they are today.

  1. Softer Tones. While a neutral foundation is always a smart bet, since you can add color via towels, accessories and other, changeable accents - soft hues are coming back for both bathrooms and kitchens. Check out Pantone's 2016 Palette for inspiration.

  2. Wood Accents. Natural elements are being incorporated into every room in the house, and bathrooms are no exception. Wood accents on floors, walls and even ceilings add a spa-like aesthetic to the bathroom, enhancing a feeling of peace and serenity. Make sure the wood products you select are FSC certified (meaning they're harvested sustainably) or consider using reclaimed wood products, which embody the reduce-reuse-recycle concept and provide unique, texturally-rich options.

  3. Shower Fixtures² or ³. In keeping with that spa-like atmosphere, showers are getting an overhaul. For versatility, convenience, comfort and romance, a dual or triple-head approach is the norm. Consider a nice, fat rain-shower head combined with a handheld option (including a slide bar to adjust the height of the fixed-spray option) for the ultimate shower experience.

  4. Hidden Storage. Even traditionalist bathroom designers can appreciate the clean look and functionality of an uncluttered vanity top. For this reason, cabinet designs are becoming increasingly creative in terms of customizable doors and drawers, built to keep all of your daily essentials within reach - but tucked out of sight.

  5. Elegant 80s Metallics. Does that sound like an oxy-moron? Well, the truth is that some of those warmer-toned metals of the 80s (copper and brass...) are making a comeback in both kitchens and bathrooms. The difference is that they are designed with a more elegant - and less plastic - look. Matte and satin finishes are the way to go here, to enjoy the reflective properties of metal (a little pizzazz) without a harsh or glaring finish.

  6. Ambient Lighting. Because the master bathroom suite is now viewed as a retreat space - as well as a functional one - a thoughtful lighting design is required. An elegant chandelier over the bath is as important as well-spaced vanity lighting. And, of course, make sure everything is on dimmers so you can adjust the glow according to mood.
