Chicago Kitchen Remodeling Trends for 2016

Chicago Kitchen Remodeling Trends 2016Are you one of the 9-in-10 homeowners planning to remodel their home in the near future? That figure is courtesy of LG Electronics, whose survey found that of that 90%, more than half are interested in updating the kitchen.

From white and gray kitchens, to black stainless steel and other "moody" features, we think this year is going to see some bigger changes than the last couple of years have brought with them.

Which of These 2016 Chicago Kitchen Remodeling Trends Tickle Your Fancy?

Here are some of the 2016 Chicago Kitchen Remodeling Trends we predict will become the norm.

White or Grey. There's no doubt about it; white kitchens are trending again and we don't see that particular trend going anywhere soon. The difference? Rather than the bolder, brighter colors that have "popped" recently, softer hues are starting to reign. This is largely due to Pantone's recent color release, which is all about soothing, muted tones. Thus, grays are starting to replace whites.

Black Stainless Steel. One of the ways to add a burst of interest in a softer-hued space is to install black stainless steel appliances. It's definitely a unique look and adds a very modern aesthetic. One thing to note, unlike regular stainless steel - there seems to be a color discrepancy between manufacturers. So, if you like the black stainless option, we recommend purchasing appliances as a set to ensure a match.

Timeless Design. Regardless of whether you prefer traditional or modern kitchen design, we always advocate the implementation of timeless features that last regardless of fickle style trends. That tenet is now being demonstrated by some of this year's kitchen trends - like mid-century modern design elements for example - proving that homeowners can never go wrong with classic lines and high-quality materials.

Welcome Back Bronze. That being said, it's interesting to note that "Timeless" designs are being celebrated in a year when bronze fixtures are making a comeback (flashback to the 80s, anyone?). Bronze, brass and mirrored accessories are in high-demand on everything from hood vents and backsplashes, to plumbing fixtures and kitchen island tops. The difference is that designers are taking a more elegant approach, and - when paired with natural elements - the look is much less "flashy" than it was thirty years ago.

Smart & Techy. From here on out, kitchens will continue to implement upgrades and features that accommodate smart technology. In today's kitchens, that often means the addition of charging stations and the sleek drawer or cabinet spaces to hide them.

Integrated Living Space. Kitchens are as much of a luxurious hangout space as they are a utilitarian one, which is why it makes sense to integrate them more fully into your open floor plan. As the kitchen becomes a more primary living space, the division between it and family/living rooms will become increasingly transparent. Adding a kitchen-centric home office is another way to integrate daily tasks.
