Chicago Bathroom Remodel: Why a Mr. Steam Steam Shower

Chicago Bathroom Remodel - Steam ShowerAs design-build professionals, it's our job to remain relatively neutral. We're happy to provide input as needed, but we aren't here to dictate your design or tell you what to do.

Sometimes, that's easier said than done - especially when there's a product that we love, love, love!

You're Crazy to Not Install a Steam Shower in Your Chicago Bathroom Remodel

If you're going to the effort of renovating or remodeling your bathroom, we highly recommend installing a Mr. Steam Steam Shower. For the record, we do not get any kick-backs or incentives for promoting them. We simply believe in installing the highest-quality products; in this niche, Mr. Steam's are the best.

How Does a Steam Shower Work?

From the outside, a steam shower looks just like a regular shower. However, the interior wall space houses a steam generator, sized to fit your shower specifications, that converts water to 110° steam. This steam is piped into the enclosure via special steam heads.

When you want to take a shower, you take a shower. When you want to steam, you activate the control and voila! Within a matter of seconds, you're ensconced in a delicious, warm, therapeutic steam cloud.

In addition to the basic function, you can also select upgrades like colored lights, aromatherapy options, waterproof speakers and technology, etc. There are entire product lines dedicated to making your steam shower a professional spa-like haven.

Ideas For Steam Shower Design

Steam showers are wondrous things. You can use them like a sauna, as part of your self-care routine (30-minutes of uninterrupted quiet, anyone?), and they also help to relieve allergies, colds and respiratory issues. Steam showers can be augmented with aromatherapy, and they make amazing end-of-the-day retreats

That being said, there are a few things you'll want to keep in mind when designing a steam shower space:

  • To waterproof the walls, your steam shower will typically be built with stone, tile, acrylic or solid composite materials.

  • The size/type of steam generator should be determined after materials selection since different materials insulate and hold heat differently.

  • An additional waterline, drain and electrical outlet will need to be added.

  • Controls should be installed inside the shower for easy, comfortable operation.

  • Shower seats are highly recommended as they enhance the steaming experience.

  • While extra ventilation may not be necessary, adequate bathroom ventilation certainly is.

The Steam Shower Experience is Recommended For...

We recommend installing a Mr. Steam Steam Shower in your Chicago bathroom remodel if you:

Have a small bathroom. We love tubs, but steam showers can be just as good if not better. Since they can come in a range of sizes, you can build a small, customized version in your tiny bathroom and still feel like you're living in luxury.

Experience back, neck, shoulder pain. The relaxation created by moist heat does wonders for those who suffer from chronic musculo-skeletal pain.

Need more alone time. Your family thinks you're taking a shower, in fact you've actually escaped into your own private, spa-like paradise.
