# 5 Features Dominating Chicago Master Bathroom Remodels

![Chicago Master Bathroom Remodel - Curbless shower](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/hs-fs/file-1247888568.jpg/Gallery/Album/10879/a_bath14.jpg?width=305&name=a_bath14.jpg "Chicago Master Bathroom Remodel - Curbless shower")If you plan wisely, [your Chicago bathroom remodel](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/chicago-bathroom-remodeling-trends-for-2017) should be a once-in-your-lifetime experience. The right features will yield a bathroom that is visually attractive but also offers all those luxury perks you’re looking forward to.

# 5 Master Bathroom Remodel Must-Haves

Here are some of the bathroom design must-haves dominating the remodeling world this year.

## Curbless Showers

Curbless showers should be the standard. Not only are they more visually attractive, they’re safer. No curb means nothing to trip over getting into – or out of – the shower area (one of the most dangerous spots in the house). It also means the shower is accessible, which benefits household occupants of all ages. Curbless showers are considered [a universal bathroom design feature](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/designing-bathrooms-with-universal-design-principles) – of benefit to you if you plan to age-in-place and appealing to future home buyers down the road.

## Freestanding Tubs

![Free Standing Tubs](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/hs-fs/file-1760000581.jpg/Gallery/Album/10879/Bathroom_Remodel%2c_Grand_Beach%2c_MI.jpg?width=306&name=Bathroom_Remodel%2c_Grand_Beach%2c_MI.jpg "Free Standing Tubs")If you plan to have a tub in the master bathroom, a freestanding tub is a beautiful option. By setting the tub in its own corner, and with [a beautiful light fixture](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/chicago-bathroom-remodeling-how-to-create-the-right-lighting-design) suspended above it, the freestanding tub is a symbol of luxury. From completely freestanding modern or claw foot tubs, to tubs surrounded by a gorgeous tile design, there is an option for every taste and bathroom style.

## Creative Tile Designs

If you’ve ever traveled to Italy, you’ve had the opportunity to view the ancient bathhouses in some of the historical ruins…all that gorgeous marble and mosaic tile is stunning to behold. You can create that same level of artistry in your own, personal bathhouse using creative tile designs.

Go wild, creating colorful or complex geometric or artistic layouts if you want, but even the simple act of alternating the direction of similarly colored or patterned tiles looks beautiful on or around tubs or through [frameless, glass shower doors](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/chicago-bathroom-remodeling-ideas-what-is-frameless-glass). Today’s pre-set tile sheets make it easy to have a tile pattern in a few hours, that would have taken days to create in the past. If you prefer a simpler look, oversize tiles are the way to go.

## Grey and Blue Color Palettes

Grey and blue are popular in both kitchens and bathrooms these days. They’re a step away from the pure white look that are [the timeless standard](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/chicago-bathroom-remodeling-for-the-ages) for both locations, but they’re still considered neutral. Grey and blue hues work well with natural accents – like wood and stone – which is another bonus since earthy accents are also trending right now.

If you do plan to sell your home in the next 10 years or so, the key here is to go with a grey or blue that is more neutral and less stylized.

## Digital Showers

Showers have remained pretty darn traditional since water was first plumbed inside homes and the water heater was invented. You turn on a faucet, wait for the water to heat up, adjust the temperature and pressure accordingly and take your shower. Now, [digital innovations](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/chicago-bathroom-remodeling-ideas-electric-mirrors-and-tv-mirrors) have taken those “givens” to the next level.

A digital shower uses technology to adjust the flow and temperature of the shower to your personal preferences. Some even offer remote control operation, including pause features and pre-programmed preferences.
