Things to Consider When Choosing Faucets for Your Chicago Bath Remodel

Chicago Bathroom Remodel - FaucetsIn addition to choosing faucets that are complimentary with your bathroom design style and finishes, there are plenty of functional considerations. Before you get your heart set on a stylized designer faucet, check the specs with your Chicago bathroom remodel team.

Check that water pressure and flow are sufficient for the bathroom's needs and verify whether the faucet (or the brand) has been reliable in their experience. This will ensure the faucet works efficiently and consistently, day after day, without requiring excessive repairs or replacement.

Things You Might Not Have Considered When it Comes to Faucet Options

First things first, however. The sink comes before the faucet, so we recommend selecting your sink first and then moving on to faucet selections so you know the two will work together.

Ready to learn all you wanted to know about faucet options for your Chicago bathroom remodel? Let's go!

Three things to verify before selecting the winning faucet:

  • Opt for solid-brass construction, rather than plated metal.
  • Verify it's WaterSense Certified.
  • Compare warranties (in most cases, the better the warranty - the better the faucet quality).

Depending on the sink you select, you'll have several different faucet options. For that reason, we recommend looking at the number of holes in your sink and working from there.

A Single Hole. A sink with a single hole requires a single mount faucet where the whole kit and caboodle attaches via that one hole. The faucet may operate via a single handle or it may have two handles that are attached to a single spout. Depending on the style of your sink, this hole could be in the center or it may be off-set or in the corner to accommodate the sink's shape.

Three Holes. There are three different types of faucets that work here, depending on the distance between the holes.

  • 4-inch center spread. These faucets have three holes, drilled 4-inches apart. The faucet and handle(s) are connected via a single deckplate.

  • 4-inch minispread. The sink will look the same as the 4-inch spread, but rather than a single-unit faucet/handle set, the faucet is installed in three separate pieces - the faucet and a separate handle on either side.

  • 8-inch widespread. Yep, you guessed it; with this one, there are three holes, drilled 8-inches apart and three separate components - handle-faucet-handle.

You may also opt to choose a vessel or trough style sink, or a sink with no holes, which means you'll use a different type of faucet.

Open spout (waterfall) These faucets are typically drilled/plumbed through the countertop and extend vertically above the vessel. If you go this route, measure the height of the vessel so the spout comfortably clears the rim.

Wall-Mount. Similarly, you may opt to install faucets that are plumbed from the wall, extending out enough for the water plume to spill well over the interior rim.

Finally, look into the benefits of sensored, or touch-less, water faucets, which are wonderful for hall baths, family bathrooms or those who desire an accessible design.
