kitchen remodeling how long does it take At Kitchens & Baths Unlimited, we help people daily with their kitchen remodeling in Chicago and the surrounding areas. One of the most frequently asked questions we field from our clients is, “How long does a kitchen remodel take?” Though it varies greatly depending on material, labor, and real estate, we’ve come up with a few estimations you can work with.
  • Partial Remodel: A partial remodel includes replacing only a couple items in the kitchen like the cabinets and counters. Though it’s a less extensive renovation, it can be a fantastic update that makes a big difference. But don’t underestimate the inconvenience of partial remodels, as many installers will remove or relocate your appliances during the project to give them more room to work and also to be proactive and avoid possible damage. When removing or replacing a counter top, this will affect and damage your existing tiled backsplash if you have one.  Sometimes the couple of items turns into a few.  Regardless this scenario would take approximately 2-3 weeks depending upon materials selected.
  • Basic Remodel: If you’re looking to replace the items mentioned above and all of your appliances, remove soffits and all outdated accessories, a basic remodel would be the option for you. Typically in a basic kitchen remodel all appliances are reinstalled in their original locations.  This option is not about reinventing the wheel.  Appliances are a heavy investment so be sure to prepare a budget. Renovations for a basic remodel would last approximately 4 to 5 weeks.
  • Full Kitchen Remodel: A full kitchen remodeling project is an extensive makeover that changes the layout of your kitchen. This will include new cabinetry, countertops, flooring and appliances. Walls are often knocked out during full kitchen remodels, opening up space for a window or door. Lighting is often updated and improved upon by adding recessed lighting, under cabinet lighting and decorative hanging fixtures over the island or eating areas. By checking referrals and finding a proven, experienced contractor, you could have the job done in approximately 5 to 6 weeks.

The kitchen is the center of the home for many families, so being uprooted for weeks on end can be difficult. Prepare yourself (and your family) to adjust to these changing conditions, and the time they will take.  It’s well worth it!
