North Shore Kitchen Remodel

Job Summary:

In the North Shore area white is trending and it's an appropriate fit for the ages and styles of the homes. You may notice the soffits are still in place. In some cases, especially when bathrooms reside directly above the kitchen, it's too labor intensive to reroute plumbing and/or HVAC ducts. Even though the soffits remain, a white design makes the kitchen appear more spacious. The addition of crown molding at the ceiling also minimizes the soffits' visibility.

Cabinetry:

This kitchen has fully custom Grabill cabinetry throughout in an inset box construction with concealed hinges to provide a cleaner look. Glacier white matte paint is one of Grabill’s most popular colors. The custom wood mantel hood creates a soft focal point, flanked with leaded glass doors for interest. They added subtle traditional touches such as the corbels on the end of the island.

Countertops:

The countertops are ¾-inch White Carrara Marble. They used an ogee edge on the island and bullnose on the perimeter. There is a nice 12-inch deep overhang on the back of the island to allow seating for three.

Backsplash:

The backsplash is a mosaic-tumbled Carrara marble that comes on 12x12 sheets in an interlocking pattern. Since the amount of backsplash is minimal, it made sense to go with a simple motif. Adding decorative framing under the hood using the grey pencil was a nice, subtle touch to add interest but remains fluid with the white and gray color scheme. Continual flow of the same material is another trick to make kitchens appear more spacious.

Flooring:

4-inch Espresso Bamboo prefinished wood planked floor runs throughout the main level of the house. Wood is a nice option when doing painted cabinets as it provides contrast, texture and warmth - preventing a sterile look.

Appliances:

Stainless steel appliances continue to dominate. The Viking microwave, oven and warming drawer, built into one cabinet are ideal. The gas stove is also Viking. It's always nice when there is room for a 48-inch wide Subzero refrigerator.

Lighting:

Lighting up the glass cabinets on the left and right of the hood is always a good option for entertaining, a night light or décor. The two island pendants also add style but don’t hang so low that they interfere with gatherings and socializing. The LED undercabinet lighting is a standard these days to provide additional task lighting or ambiance.
