Kitchen Remodel | Lake Michigan Beach House

Job Summary:

Kitchen remodels take on a slightly different attitude when it comes to a beach house or second vacation home. Clients tend to take a more relaxing and fun approach. Bold colors are typically used to brighten up the space and to make it a more cheerful and entertaining environment for family and friends alike.

Cabinetry Style:

This kitchen boasts fully custom Grabill cabinetry in the Devonshire door style. This door style has an applied molding to allow for more dimension. The grooves and curves of the molding allows the white glazing to catch and they really set off the island.

Cabinet Finish:

These cabinets were finished with a Glacier White matte paint on the perimeter and a soft turquoise on the island with a white glaze. Grabill will create any paint color you select from a Benjamin Moore fan of colors so your options are limitless.

Countertops:

There are two different countertops at work in this kitchen. The island counter top is a Princess White quartzite slab with an ogee edge detail and the perimeter tops are Volga Blue granite with an eased edge detail.

Backsplash:

For the backsplash, the owners selected a White Thassos marble in 3x6 subway tiles laid in a brick pattern. These were outlined, or capped, with a matching marble pencil for a more finished and upscale look. The framed detailing under the hood uses the same material, it's just laid on a diagonal in a herringbone pattern for interest since the hood is the focal point.

Flooring:

The home's existing 3.5-inch oak planks were refinished in a Nutmeg finish to blend and complement the kitchen as well as the rest of the house and its finishes.

Lighting:

Five sconces were purchased from Restoration Hardware to hang over the island, as well as over both the main kitchen sink and the smaller bar/prep sink, for continuity and decor.  The other task lighting comes from 5-inch recessed Juno cans with white trims to blend in with the ceiling.  These are all installed on dimmer switches.  In addition to the LED lighting in the cans there also is LED undercabinet lighting throughout.

Appliances:

They installed a Wolf Duel Fuel Range and Zephyr hood insert into the wood mantel hood.  because they didn't want to have too much stainless steel exposed. We also paneled the fridge and Subzero fridge drawers to have that integrated look.
