Chicago Contemporary Kitchen Renovation

Job Summary:

These customers had a traditional kitchen and were ready to replace it with a clean and contemporary look. They also wanted something that was easy to maintain. The original cabinets were a dark cherry so they knew they needed something lighter and brighter.

Talk about a drastic change! Not just the fact that we took the kitchen from dark to light, but even the transition from traditional to contemporary made for some dramatic Before and After Pictures.

Cabinetry Style:

Almost without fail, Grabill frameless custom cabinetry will be the option when a customer wants a contemporary look. Since they were opting for contemporary, and not completely modern, we installed slab doors with softened edges to mitigate the sharpness.

Cabinet Finish:

The cabinets were finished with a Gray paint and a high-lacquer buff finish. When you select the Grabill cabinetry line you can pick from any of the Benjamin Moore paint colors. A high-lacquer buff will show fingerprints a little sooner but it's also extremely easy to wipe down.

Counter Tops:

We installed Calcutta Marble countertops, which yield an ultra-luxurious aesthetic. This slab has a standard thickness of 1.25-inches, with a square or eased edge detailing. Do keep in mind that marble is a softer stone, which means it's prone to staining and etching, so annual sealing is imperative when you install it in a kitchen.

Backsplash:

For the backsplash, we continued the Calcutta Marble up the wall for continuity and simplicity. Introducing a tile would take away from the clean contemporary flare.

Flooring:

The clients selected a pre-finished bamboo with an espresso stain for their floors. The nice thing about the prefinished options is that you don’t have to move the kids and pets out for the couple days that typically unfinished flooring would require. It also eliminates that strong smell and reduces construction dust. Also, the time frame from start to finish is quicker. Last but not least, bamboo is an eco-friendly option.

APPLIANCES:

The clients wanted a 36-inch paneled Sub zero refrigerator to match their cabinetry and gain that integrated look. They also chose a 36-inch Wolf range and 36-inch Wolf stainless steel hood. The sink is a stainless steel Franke and we installed a 24-inch stainless steel Bosch dishwasher.
