Laundry Room Design Northbrook

Job Summary:

This laundry room design exemplifies the modern trend of creating a dual or triple-purpose room that you could incorporate into your Northbrook home. In addition to the washer, dryer, and countertop space, an organization area with a desk was added where kids can do homework and parents can pay bills and coordinate the family's schedule. The cork and chalkboards can be used to leave messages or have fun and the cabinetry and countertops can also be used as a craft area. This updated laundry room has many options.

Cabinetry Style:

Omega Shaker-style framed cabinetry was selected with a full overlay door style to minimize the amount of visible framing and door margins. A small shaker crown molding was utilized on the top of the cabinetry for aesthetics, providing a finished and more custom look. The 2-1/4” thick shelves provided by Omega keep a continuous look and flow of cabinetry since it's offered in a matching finish.

Cabinet Finish:

The black painted cabinets are a matte finish black on maple wood. This is Omega’s standard sheen offering. The sliding entry doors and window trim above the washer and dryer were painted to match the cabinetry, which ties the black accents together. For something a little different and fun, a sliding barn door mounted on exposed hardware was chosen rather than a more traditional pocket door.

Counter Tops:

Crushed Quartz counter tops are great for a laundry/utility rooms regardless of the manufacturer: Cambria, Caesar Stone, Silestone, Zodiac etc. They are man-made and non-porous. As a result, quartz is impervious to stains and doesn't require any maintenance such as the sealing required by granite. A thicker-than-standard edge makes a nice statement, maintaining the clean and streamlined theme. Rather than using typical wood paneling, the quartz counter extends down the side of the washer and dryer, and along the side of the desk, which yields a more unique look.

Appliances:

The front load washer and dryer, in a stainless steel finish, ties in nicely with the handles and entry door hardware. When ordering your washer and dryer, consider the door hinging to simplify the process of transferring wet clothes into the dryer. Adding storage pedestals provides additional storage below the units and elevates the units to a more comfortable height.

Flooring:

Vinyl flooring is making a comeback for laundry rooms because it's ultra-durable, easy to maintain and available in an extensive array of colors and patterns.
