Highland Park Master Bedroom Built Ins

Job Summary:

Master bedroom remodels are increasingly popular as clients desire built-in entertainment areas, fireplaces and other luxury upgrades such as a coffee or juice bar. That was the case for the clients who contracted with us for their Highland Park Master Bedroom remodel. While they had an existing fireplace, it was completely outdated. Thus, our clients wanted to create a master bedroom built-in to accommodate more storage, as well as an entertainment center, and we updated the fireplace to match.

The key to a successful master bedroom built-in is ensuring the spacing and alignment of the TV works with the bed location. This Highland Park remodel also included the addition of a discreet juice bar.

Cabinet Style:

We installed fully-custom frameless cabinetry in a maple wood veneer with wenge wood accents for the fireplace mantel and the framing around the television.  Even though it's subtle, wenge wood adds a nice detail and extra interest. When doing custom built-ins these accents are attached and installed in such a way that they anchor to the wall for safety as well as a seamless appearance.

Cabinet Finish:

The bulk of the maple was stained with a Burnt Sugar finish. However, the wenge wood accents with a darker finish. Wenge wood has a beautiful linear grain that clearly shows the striations within the wood. It is an excellent choice to pair with maple, since maple is also known for its consistent and calm grain pattern. Neither of the woods compete with the other.

Counter Tops:

Often with built-ins and furniture type applications, wood counter tops are desired.  Wood counter tops can be made out of any wood, any thickness and then stained as desired.

Fireplace Fascia:

For the fireplace face, owners selected a 12x12 Durango marble to remain consistent with the master bathroom marble. A clean and simple application for the face and hearth floor area was used in the hopes that the carpet would be protected from burns from potential sparks or cinders.

By keeping the design elements consistent, clients are able to enjoy a seamless transition between each of the individual components, as well as the exposed master bathroom space.
