Contemporary Kitchen Design Highland Park

Job Summary:

Clients frequently like idea of a contemporary kitchen design but worry the final product will look too cold or austere. This needn't be the case. There are plenty of options for adding a warm and inviting feel while adhering to modern design principles, including sleek lines, clean edges, and minimal countertop accoutrement.

Cabinet Style and Finish:

One way to add warmth to a contemporary kitchen is to use wood cabinets of some kind. However, we also wanted to ensure our clients maintained a light and spacious feel to their kitchen. To accomplish this, we went for a two-tone kitchen finish, using a dark, exotic wood veneer called Macassar for the lower cabinets, coffee wall and to integrate the refrigerator.

They selected frameless cabinets for upper cabinetry above the cook top and sink. These cabinets were painted white. Both cabinets were finished with a high-lacquer top coat to create a uniformly reflective sheen.

Counter Tops:

The homeowners wanted to install countertops that were close to white on the color wheel, but still had some type of pattern. While many marble options fit the bill, we were concerned about marble's porosity, which makes it more susceptible to staining and etching in kitchens experiencing daily wear and tear. Instead, they selected a Taj Mahal quartzite, which is an extremely durable, natural stone product. It is harder than marble and significantly more resistant to staining. The lighter color creates a beautiful transition between the darker lower cabinets and the white upper cabinets.

Backsplash:

In this kitchen, center stage goes to the unique and exotic Macassar veneer. Therefore, the clients wanted their backsplash to blend in with the rest of the kitchen. They chose a frosted glass tiles, which opens the space above the dark lower cabinets.

Appliances:

Of course, a contemporary Highland Park kitchen design requires modern appliances to match. We integrated their Sub Zero refrigerator with the exotic wood veneer. The clients also installed an under-counter wine refrigerator and temperature controlled storage as well as a built-in Miele coffee maker with a direct water line. The built-in oven, electric cook top and stainless steel microwave are all manufactured by Wolf.
