It’s a balance of personal preferences and trends and, with the right kitchen design team on your side, you should be able to create a Chicago bathroom remodel that accomplishes both.

# Which of These 2018 Chicago Bathroom Design Trends Suits Your Style?

With that in mind, here’s a rundown of some of the most popular bathroom trends worth considering for your bathroom remodel.

## It’s all about the shower

Showers continue to be the place where homeowners spend the most money and energy. There are plenty of things to consider when updating your shower including:

- **Steam options.** For many homeowners, [steam showers](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/chicago-bathroom-design-features-of-a-luxury-steam-shower) eliminate the need for a soak tub – allowing a larger shower space with extra bathroom square footage to spare. Steam showers – combined with [well-designed seating options](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/chicago-bathroom-remodel-should-i-include-a-bench-in-my-new-shower), give you a place to relax, wind down and kick back comfortably for extended periods of time.
- **Plumbing fixtures that make a mark**. While tile work is certainly a major bonus, you can make an extra visual mark by selecting [unique plumbing features and fixtures](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/bath-design-4-luxury-bathroom-features-you-may-not-have-seen-before). Some of our favorites include exposed plumbing, like systems designed by [Sonoma Forge](http://www.sonomaforge.com/designer-showers.html), which bring plumbing to the exterior side of the walls. Rainfall shower heads and dual shower heads are also popular.
- **Frameless glass**. There’s no better way to show off that luxury shower than [frameless glass shower doors](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/chicago-bathroom-remodeling-ideas-what-is-frameless-glass).
- **Curb-less showers** are increasingly popular. In addition to a more streamlined look, curb-less showers are ideal for baby boomers focusing on [accessible bathrooms](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/bid/387955/Universal-Accessible-Bathroom-Design-Ideas) that will allow them to age safely in place.

## Eliminating tubs

Along those same lines, a recent Houzz survey stated that more than a quarter (27%) of surveyors opted to [remove their tubs](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/chicago-bathroom-remodelingare-jetted-tubs-going-out-of-style) to make more room for other design features – like the shower, or room for extended countertop and storage space.

## Your age determines your preferences

Material preferences, colors and finish options are all over the map – mostly determined by your age bracket. While Baby Boomers opt for medium-wood tone cabinets, Millennials are all about the gray tones, and Generation X homeowners tend to like darker wood tones and finishes.

## Accessible bathroom designs

Speaking of which, accessible bathroom trends are on the rise. Bathrooms that keep accessibility in mind are better and safer for everyone [– from the very young](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/kids-bathroom-ideas-points-to-ponder-when-remodeling-kids-bathroom) to the very life-wise. In addition to curbless showers or [walk-in tubs](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/chicago-bathroom-remodel-is-a-walk-in-tub-right-for-you), homeowners are taking advantage of [luxury vinyl options](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/is-luxury-vinyl-appropriate-for-kitchens-baths) – which are softer and more slip-free than tile alternatives.

## High-tech features continue to rise

Not surprisingly, high-tech bathroom features are in high demand. The smart phone accompanies us everywhere we go – and bathrooms are no exception. As a result, increasing numbers of remodelers [opt for high-end, high-tech toilets](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/chicago-bathroom-remodeling-not-your-average-toilet) and also take advantage of [screen potential in mirrors](https://www.kitchensbathsunlimited.com/blog/chicago-bathroom-remodeling-ideas-electric-mirrors-and-tv-mirrors) and showers.
