Northbrook Kitchen Remodeling

Job Summary:

These Northbrook homeowners were ready for a fresh new look.  They went from a white kitchen with laminate counter tops to this warm and updated transitional kitchen. We removed the soffits and a pantry closet that was taking up a lot of space, yielding significantly more storage. Because our clients enjoy entertaining, seating was priority. We reconfigured the layout to provide comfortable seating for five, in addition to kitchen table seating.

Cabinetry:

Bremtown custom, frameless cabinetry was chosen for this kitchen remodel in a Stateroom finish on cherry wood. They have take-off Shaker-style doors, perfect for transitional designs, but the custom bevel on the horizontal rails adds an extra touch of elegance. They are plywood box constructed cabinets with a wood veneer interior.

Countertops:

The 1-1/4” Ice Quartzite countertops appear almost translucent, thus we installed lighting underneath the island countertop before installing it so the light would shine through it. This adds a major Wow factor. The lights are controlled by a switch on the side of the island.

Backsplash:

The glass 4x4 tiles are complimented by a sporadically placed 2x2 Old English bronze-finished insert. Then we added an extra accent detail by making the cover plates for the outlets in the same Old English Bronze finish.

Flooring:

The owners were happy with their 2.25-inch, planked wood floors, which went well with their new Northbrook kitchen remodel. We simply refinished their floors in a natural finish so they look brand new.

Appliances:

The 36” built-in subzero has matching wood panels on the front to provide a more custom and built-in look. If you like this look, be aware that a water or ice dispenser on the front means worrying about the water dripping down the front of the wood, so you'll want to keep that in mind. The dishwasher was left as stainless steel. The owners wanted to minimize the big chunky stainless steel look for their hood so, instead, we built it look to like a cabinet with the hood blower hidden behind the faux-cabinet doors.  To keep a more minimal look they chose an electric cooktop that's streamlined as well as easy to clean and maintain.

Lighting:

We installed six-inch, recessed Juno light fixtures on dimmer switches to provide both task lighting and ambiance. These are complimented with two pendants for character and additional mood lighting. We also added energy-efficient LED undercabinet lighting.
