Kitchen Renovation | Deerfield

Job Summary:

Each kitchen remodel begins with a holistic design approach, evaluating what our clients need as well as what the existing space has to offer. For this Deerfield kitchen remodel, ample wall space made it easy to incorporate a wealth of storage. Because the space is visible from the great room, the hood wall needed to be a focal point, and that was accomplished using beautiful cabinetry, brought down to sit on the counters, and elegant, stylized glass cabinet doors.

Cabinetry Style:

While clients want a clean and updated look, they sometimes are partial to traditional kitchen designs. Grabill custom cabinetry can be selected with an inset cabinet, showcasing a 3-inch wide Shaker door style, just as shown here. Note that the top shallow drawers are a slab - or a one-piece drawer - for simplicity. It has a very clean look while including nice traditional details such as the corbels and posts.

Cabinet Finish:

This kitchen has a two-tone approach with a Glacier White matte finish on maple wood for the perimeter cabinets and a Mahogany finish on the island cabinetry.

Countertops:

Many clients love marble and it is a wonderful aesthetic choice for the look captured here. Carrara marble was installed with an eased edge detail for the perimeter tops and a Matrix Motion granite with an ogee edge - built up to be twice as thick for a nice change and effect - on the island. This is a good option for those who love marble because you get the benefit of marble aesthetics in lower-use areas and can use a complementary, more durable surface for the areas where more food prep will take place.

Backsplash:

Using the same Carrara marble for the backsplash preserved a seamless and continuous look. When you don't have a lot of space for the backsplash, due to lower cabinets, using consistent materials makes the most sense and prevents introducing another material that might look to busy or disjointed.

Additional Details:

In theory, it might seem like heavy crown moldings, valance toe kicks, custom glass mullions with clear glass inserts as well as the corbels and posts would be too much detail in such a small space. However, the white paint and a clean design approach yields an elegant finish.
